Lemon Sole (Whole, Pan Ready)

Lemon sole is delicious fish that interestingly is neither a real sole, nor does it taste of lemon. It is a member of the plaice family, although it eats closer to Dover Sole than Plaice. It has delicate, sweet white flesh and is best cooked simply, either grilled or fried, and served with a light sauce and (of course) a squeeze of lemon! This pan-ready option is head off and trimmed, and we can either leave the skin on or take it off, depending on your preference. One whole fish will work as a sharing starter for 2 or a generous main course for 1.

Rest assured that we will make every effort to source this fresh product for your order, however, if we are unable to do so for any reason, we will replace it with a frozen alternative.

When fish happen to be plentiful at market, we try to buy a little extra which we expertly prepare and blast freeze, here on site, for just such an eventuality. The replacement should arrive with you frozen. Do not re-freeze seafood that has defrosted.

Pan ready lemon sole, as you would expect can be cooked in a pan! We recommend you use a pan that can go in the oven too, as starting off on the hob and finishing the cooking in the oven is like a 'best of both worlds'. You get the caramelisation from the heat on the hob and can finish off the cooking in a hot oven. Score the dark skin on the fish and cook with a little oil or butter dark skin down until brown and caramelised. Then flip over and finish off in the oven. Serve with new potatoes, asparagus and parsley butter.

Lemon sole is low in calories and fat and high in protein. It can also provide you with B vitamins, and minerals including magnesium and phosphorous. It is a good source of Omega 3 oils, providing 140 mg per 100g fillet.
