Whiting may not be as well known as other white fish, but it has a place in our heart! It should be treated like a small cod, and is quite delicious when very fresh and simply cooked. It is a very sustainable option with healthy stocks in Cornish waters being fished responsibly. Fillets breadcrumbed, shallow fried and served with homemade tartar sauce are fantastic. Each pack will contain enough fillet for 2 x 180g portions, enough for 2 main course portions or 4 starters. If you prefer your whiting skinless, the weight of the pack will be reduced to 300g.

The availability of all seafood at market can be impacted by many different factors – Seasonality, bad weather, tidal variations, which boats are landing, or even good old-fashioned fisherman’s luck… and in the current circumstances, unprecedented demand has further added to uncertainty.

Rest assured that we will make every effort to source this fresh product for your order, however, if we are unable to do so for any reason, we will replace it with a frozen alternative.

When fish happen to be plentiful at market, we try to buy a little extra which we expertly prepare and blast freeze, here on site, for just such an eventuality. The replacement should arrive with you frozen. Do not re-freeze seafood that has defrosted.

Whilst it is not packed with flavour, when very fresh, and all of ours is, it can be a bit of a treat. Lightly dusted with flour, egg white and breadcrumbed, you can construct the perfect Fish Finger Sandwich using whiting fillets with home made tartar sauce and crunchy lettuce on thick fresh bread.

Whiting fish is packed with various amounts of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, lipids and amino acids. Due to the presence of these nutrients, it provides ample amount of health benefits. In 85 grams of cooked whiting fish, it offers 63.5 g of water, 99 calories, 19.96 g of protein, 1.44 g of total lipid fat and 1.24 g of ash. The same serving size offers 92.08% of Vitamin B12, 63.45% of Selenium, 55.02% of Isoleucine, 54.81% of lysine, 50.91% of tryptophan, 49.72% of threonine, 48.67% of valine, 47.65% of histidine, 43.89% of leucine, 39.92% of protein, 34.57% of phosphorus, 12.87% of choline and 11.77% of Vitamin B6. Without going into too much further detail, for a realtively small fish, it is proper good for you!
