Sustainable Swaps for Ray & Skate

It is really important to avoid eating ray and skate. These are slow-growing species which take a long time to reach sexual maturity, often caught before they have reproduced. In addition, they produce a small number of eggs, so those that escape capture have fewer young to top up the population.

There are some beautiful, sustainable alternatives to these fragile species. Locally landed from healthy populations, we recommend plaice, hake and monkfish from Cornwall. Meaty, juicy species that are packed with flavour and nutrition, with far lower environmental impact. Yes please!
