Hake (Merluccius merluccius)

Hake, although closely related to cod, looks quite different. It has a longer, more slender body and a head full of razor-like teeth - you would not want to get a hand stuck in there!

Hake is landed in good quantities in the South West and up in Scotland. It is a real shame that most of the fish is exported to Spain, where it is a national obsession. We want to encourage more people in the UK to try this delicious fish and keep it on our shores.

There are issues around sustainability with Hake, but we source from responsible boats like The Ajax which lands into Newlyn.
