Sustainable Mackerel

From a sustainability perspective, Cornwall's handline mackerel fishery is hard to beat. Stocks are healthy and, unlike many other areas, within Cornish waters industrial fishing is banned. Traditional small scale open fishing boats catch mackerel using simple handlines, which is one of the most selective and low impact fishing methods available. The nature of this type of fishing means that the boats are in and out very quickly and the fish are spankingly fresh and incredible quality when landed to markets. These boats fish all around the Cornish coast and land their catches daily to all of the main markets, like Newlyn and Plymouth.
