Sustainable Gurnard

Until fairly recently Gurnard were only thought to be good for crab bait or being discarded, which frankly amazes us as we love it! Gurnard are a beautiful and unique-looking fish, with modified fins that it almost walks along the seabed with, stirring up the seabed to help find its prey of worms and small crustaceans. They are fast growing and abundant fish, landed along the south west coast daily, using gill nets and demersal and beam trawls. When landed by demersal trawl and netted, they are 'Recommended' by The Cornwall Good Seafood Guide, and these are the fish that we source.
