How to Cook, Clean & Store Mussels

So you've just ordered some tasty fresh Mussels from Fish for Thought, they've arrived at your door in the bag and you're thinking... what next? Well fear not, Chef Adam is here yet again to guide you through the process of Cleaning, Cooking and Storing your Mussels!

Chef Adam's tips for storing Mussels

  1. Empty the bag of Mussels into a bowl or an unsealed container

  2. Cover the mussels with a clean damp cloth or paper towel, it's important not to store the shellfish in water.

  3. Place into the fridge and store for up to 2 - 5 days (I actually recommend to consume within 2 for best taste, however!)

  4. Check on the Mussels daily and drain any build up of water.

Chef Adam's tips for cooking Mussels

  1. Give the Mussels a good rinse under running water, this is because Mussels naturally open and close their shells out of the water. If you have Mussels that do not close after this, give them a tap on the kitchen surface or give them a gentle squeeze under the running water. If they still remain open - discard.

  2. Add the mussels to a pre-heated pot and cover with the lid.

  3. Add our delicious Mariniere sauce to the pot, cooking will take approx 2 - 3 minutes but that's of course depending on the strength of heat, how much liquid you use, and the number of mussels.

  4. When a good amount of steam is finding its way out of the pot, they're ready to be served.
